Implementing WhatConverts

Thank you for choosing WhatConverts! This set-up guide will cover how to select phone numbers to match traffic sources, and then add a tracking code to your website or blog in 10 easy steps.

1. Go to http://blogger.com and create a blog (Blogger.com is a website you can setup for free with no coding skills). To create your blog, on the Blogger home page, select "Create New Blog". For this Demo, the blog will be titled "Implementing WhatConverts". Enter an address for the blog below the title. Click "Create blog" to finish.

2.  Once you have created your blog,  click the orange "New Post" button at the top of the page. Name this post "Test Page".  In this new post, type in the phone number you would like to swap with a call tracking number. This demo will use 555.555.5555 as an example

3. Go to www.whatconverts.com and create a free 14 day free trial account. Follow the process to setup your account. Once the account set-up is complete, you will automatically be directed to the "Tracking" page. Click the green "Add Phone Number" button at the top of the page.

A window will pop up asking you to purchase a telephone number. For this Demo, the cost is covered by the free trial. Select "Local Number". In the drop-down menu, select "Area Code". We will use the area code 508. Enter 508 and click "Search".

A list of available phone numbers will pop up. You can select any of the available numbers, for this Demo, select the first number. Click "Buy Number".

4. The next page will ask you to enter your name and the destination number, as well as any call settings you may want to add. For the destination number, you should enter the number you want calls forwarded to. For this Demo, I used my own cell phone number.

Moving down the page, select "Yes" to "track where a visitor that called came from". Under "Set Source To Trigger", select "Always Swap". At the bottom of the page, next to "Swap out this number", enter the number you used on the test page of your blog post. Click "Update", and on the next screen, "Skip" adding a form.

5. On the next page, you’ll receive a "tracking code". "Copy" this tracking code, as you will need to add this code to your test page on your Blogger account. At this point you have created a WhatConverts account, and purchased a "tracking telephone number". You will now add the tracking code to the blog's test page. This tracking code allows us to swap the number on your website with the tracking number.

6. Go back to your http://blogger.com account and select the "Theme" menu item on the left. Select "Edit HTML" in the middle of the page. This looks scary, but all we are going to do is "paste" the tracking code.

7. Once you click "Edit HTML", the code for your page will pop up. Don't be alarmed! This will be really easy.

Click inside the window and use "CTRL+F" (Command + F for Macs) to search for the text
</HEAD> in the search box. This will take you to the location in the script where you will paste the tracking code.

 8. Now that you have located </HEAD>, paste the "tracking code" you got from your WhatConverts account (see step 5 above) directly above </HEAD> in the window. It will look like the example below. Click the orange "Save theme" button at the top of the page. The tracking code has been added and saved.

9. Once you have pasted your tracking code, select "Pages" on the lefthand side of the screen to return to your blog posts. Click on your test page. When you are viewing your test page, click "Preview" in the upper right hand corner of the page.

A "Preview" window will open. The number you initially entered on your test page should swap out, and will show the "tracking number" in its place.

10. Call the tracking number listed on the "Preview" page. The call will be redirected to the "destination number" you entered in your WhatConverts account. Now log on to WhatConverts.com, select "Dashboard", and you should see a new "lead" listed.

Congratulations, you have setup WhatConverts to track phone calls

from your page.
